Don't just dump it at a bank. Some collector will just pick it up. Spend it at a Target or Zellers; best chance of a young'n finding it.

If your going to regret it, I don't think you should do it. It's a nice coin, and there are chances it'll go to someone who doesn't appreciate or doesn't realize the value of it. But, if you're set on it, here are the three best places I'd recommend. 1. Spend it at Target or Walmart. 2. At your school, (although you seem to have knocked that idea down.) 3. Give it to a friend.

Why not give to a kid as a gift, birthday or easter, etc.?

Easter egg hunt or an easter basket sounds perfect! I would probably stash it in a pinata.

If you mean literally plant it at the park, as in the ground, the chances are too good that it would never be found. Or that it would be corroded when found.

Give it to one of the young kids just starting out collecting. If you belong to a coin club, give it to a kid in the club.

steve199, I'm pretty certain it would be found at some point. There is quite a sizable metal detecting contingent out there. Most aren't kids though, but you'd make some adult detectorist's day by planting in a park. That day may be 20 years from now, but it'll happen. Silver won't corrode too much in normal soil, so if it doesn't get too abraded by the dirt and someone doesn't smack it with a digging tool it will probably come out of the ground in nearly as good condition as it is in now.
Even if a kid does find it most won't appreciate it. If I were going to do this I'd try to find a kid with a potential interest in the hobby and give it too him. That way you know it will be appreciated.

Hey lafaa, I don't mean to dissuade you from this great idea, but I thought that you were putting together a 7070. Shouldn't you put your only Peace dollar in there?

If I wanted a kid to have it I would give it to them myself. That is why I usually send coins to YN's when I can. If I don't care who gets the coin I will have a contest

lafaa, I am a little confused. I thought you were a young collector, that did not have a huge budget for coin purchases. Why OH why then would you give away your "only" Peace dollar? If you like the idea about planting some collectible coins and sparking interest in the hobby...that is what wheat pennies, corroded indian head pennies and dateless Buffalo nickels are for. Those have a chance of floating around in circulation for a while before it finds someone who pays attention. A Peace dollar will go right from your hand into the cashiers pocket and then to EBAY

Quote: If I don't care who gets the coin I will have a contest I second that opinion! You are welcome to have a contest and restrict it to younger members if that is your goal. I would not spend it, bury it, or do anything else that leaves it to chance, especially if the goal is to have a kid feel proud.

yes but if I do that.....someone might be an adult and say they are a kid...though I don't think anyone would be that dishonest on here but there might be
