As bullion, I would say maybe depending on price you can get them for. They are beautiful coins, but I perfer to invest in other things. Remember collect what you like.

I'd be surprised if a bank can get them. You can buy them from coin dealers or other folks that might be seller theirs. Is it a good investment? Anyone that gives a yes or no answer is just guessing. Even "experts" disagree on whether silver or gold is going to go up. Other experts will disagree on which stocks will go up, and which will go down. Finding a good investment is not easy. I have a few eagles, because I like them. Now that Eeyore has spoken, others will chime in about how high silver is going to go.

I am a collector, not an investor, so I cannot honestly say what the best investment opportunities are. I collect what I like and I collect for keeps. In my opinion, the American Eagles are very popular and there should always be a market for them. You should be able to find a buyer when you need to sell, but I cannot guarantee that you will make a profit.

It's all on individual preference of what you want to collect. You can find ASE's online by private sellers for decent prices; however, stay away from MS-70 sellers as they are way overpricing their bullions. MS-69 is just as good a looking ASE and for less money.

As long as the spot price of gold is at $1100 U.S. you wont be able to find them for less than $1000. You may want to look into fractional pieces and I wouldn't pay much attention to the face value since these will trade for their bullion value and not their face value.

Wes, the face value doesn't mean anything. The uncirculated (non-proof) ASE's can be purchased in the $20 range. Proof ones that are graded PF-69 (by NGC or PCGS, for example) can be bought in $50 range. The prices of ASE's fluctuate with the price of silver.

He never stated "silver" eagle, just eagle, so I was assuming gold eagles.

Gold eagle or silver eagle, buy what you like and at least enjoy them. For investment do whatever you feel comfortable with. Graded or raw coins- sometimes there is not much of a price difference on the buy back prices. Graded eagles, in my opinion are mostly overrated.
A bank selling eagles?

Quote: are the American eagle coins worth investing in? Yes if you have a working crystal ball with a solid track history of accuracy that tells you when the metals markets are going to go up, for how long, and how high they will get. Of course if you had one of those you wouldn't be asking the question. I'll let you in on a secret....none of us have one either so our opinion isn't much if any better than your own assessment.

However if you do, I'd like to buy you lunch. But keep in mind if you're only investing in bullion (uncirculated AGEs and ASEs) then there are much cheaper alternatives with lower premiums.
