Just wondering, how can you tell the difference between a "woody" which is a impurity in the metal when minted and surface contaminant which is a circulation problem? John1

Wow thats an awesome LWC. Its impossible to grade under all that wood grain but its AU+ for sure and I would venture to say it is MS. I see very few digs or dings.

I have one similar to that color and texture slabbed an MS61. It's hard to predict what a TPG will do on woddies. So many times they come back genuine or dipped when they look perfectly natural to me. nlp

That's a hard one. I can't see any rub under all that "camouflage". LOL!
I'm going to venture a guess that it is MS. Possibly MS62 or 63. It has a good strike which is hard to find for the 20's dates with mintmarks.
Nice coin!

I think I can see enough shine on the bow tie and the right vertical in the N on cent to believe there is wear and that makes it AU-58. But, I went crossed eyed trying to see through the noise, LOL, I really don't think you can grade this coin from pics.
WOW

Yea, this is a tough coin to grade from pictures and the facts it's a 21-S. I have the advantage in hand!
I graded this coin VF-30. I made it a test subject for VERDI-CARE™ and the product did wonders on this coin. I was surprized by all the AU and MS guesses. Don't feel bad, I posted it on a different coin forum and all the guesses were AU and MS too. More info on my conservation of this coin can be found in the VERDI-CARE™ thread in the main coin forum section.

Quote: I graded this coin VF-30. Boy it looks EF at least. Maybe this one should be called "tinny" instead of "woody"!

I didn't take a stab at it Thad. I passed on this one You call it a VF30. I can see some wear on the wheat stalks, some lines, and cheek of Lincoln. I thought it would be much higher! Nice "woody"
