For only $19.95, but wait that's not all, you also get the thought of the day, but wait there's more, we'll throw in the word of the day at no extra charge. OK- enought junk. Here is a thought? I was reading "The Guide Book of Bufflo and Jefferson nickel" by Q. David Bowers published by Whitman. (which I recommend) It has an article in it by "The Numismatist", April 1942 stating that the Silver War Nickels were being made because nickel was worth more than silver and nickel was needed to make steel stronger for tanks..etc. So for the poor mans hoard, instead of paying these real high premiums for silver coins, hoarding nickels may be of benefit. Well maybe? I just found that interesting, but guessing all of you knew that about the War Nickel history already. OK - here's my get rich scheme - free - don't buy coins - buy WW2 surplus tanks - they have a lot of nickel in them.

That's a great idea! I always wanted to own a tank anyway! Do you know where I can get one? I am pretty sure somebody from the government would be at your front door very quickly wondering what you intended to do with your"nickel hoard"!

Or you could try what someone else already did. Place adds in papers all over the country saying for $1 I'll tell you how to become a millionair. People sent him that $1 and he sent them a small piece of paper saying "Do as I'm doing"

Unfortunately, nickel is no longer the "strategic metal" it once was. Nickel-alloy tank armour, for instance, has largely been superseded by ceramic and carbon-fibre compounds - stronger, and lighter. It's still used by the military, but it's no longer seen as "essential".
As an aside, several European countries, including Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, France and Switzerland, used their pure nickel coinage as a "secret nickel stockpile" in the years leading up to World War II. The nickel coins certainly disappeared from circulation fairly quickly once the metal was needed for the war effort.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

funny first post in the thread.
A carbon fiber coin would be cool. I ahve thought about machining some titanium coins.

If you Google "nickel spot prices" and look at the recent as well as the last 6 months, there very well could be reason to hoard your nickels. I'm just saying...

Silver is sometimes called "the poor man's gold'. Maybe nickel is becoming the poor man's silver. James Wesley Rawles of survivalblog.com has been advising people to stash away nickel rolls at face value.

HOWEVER, this was done when postage was about $0.16 so by todays standards the add would have to say $2.00 OR enclose a stamped, self addressed envelope.
