I just picked up a partially completed Washington quarter Dansco 8140. (1932 - 1998)

I am hoping I got a good deal.

What do you think it is worth?

It has 60 coins. 3 silver proofs ( 1961 oldest in book, 1992, 1993)
2 SMS (1965, 1967)
15 clad proofs
40 BU

No 82,83 P's or D's. No coins in the first three pages.
The book is in really good shape.
This is the last of a group of Dansco books that came into a local shop a couple months ago, counting this one I bought 5 of them.

Here is a couple quick pictures. (missed one of the pages with coins)

This is just my opinion, off the top if my head. Maybe $35 for the coins and another $15 for the album (it appears to be in great shape).

It will be interesting to see what others think and how much you actually paid. A nice start to a Washington quarter set though.

Jbuck
That's what I was thinking. It would be nice to find out what others think would be a good price.

Just for the new collectors this is how I break down a set like this. When I go into a coin shop and I try to figure out what would be a good price. (I am no expert, but this is how I do it)

Before I say what I paid, this is how I broke it down.

The Dansco book is a 8 page album. It retails at over $30. It is in very good shape, but still used.

1. Look for key date, or better date coins. (I did not check every coin, but the ones I know are not there)
2. Break down the rest of them
3. silver proof quarters
- any silver quarter at 12X face is $3.00, but these are proof, numismedia list all these in PR65 at
over $10. All are better than PR65, so they should be between 3 and 10 dollars each (buying separate)
4. Clad proof (15 coins, 68 S thru 92 S) What is a good price $1 ..$2 each Numismedia shows them
at $5 to $10 in PR64/PR65 for these years.
5. SMS (2 coins) this is a hard one .. I priced them as BU, but the 1967 is very nice and has good value
above MS65.
6. P and D's (40 coins) all look BU, couple are a little dull, most look great. $10 face value what is a good price to pay for BU's?

Of course first you have to want to collect them. I thought they will go good with my State Quarter albums. Plus I have most of the rest of the presidents, I thought I might as well get this set too.

A set of Dansco Presidents albums will look good on a shelf of their own. This is what I call my president coins,
Lincoln (8100) Jefferson (8113) Roosevelt (do not have yet) Washington (I have 4 different albums for these) Kennedy ( do not have the album yet, but putting together a set of proof only Kennedy's that I will put in a blank half album) and last the Ike set .. I am almost done with this set it is starting to look pretty nice.

I really like the 1932~1998 Washington quarter set and feel it is a good one to have. Since I do not count any of the post 1998 quarters as a part of the series, I take comfort knowing that it is a completed set (Like the Eisenhower dollars and Franklin half dollars).

I finished mine two years before the Statehood Quarters came and drove the prices up (Well, I did have to add the 1998 coins after they came out). Most people know I do not care about the investment aspect, but knowing what I paid for my 1932-D and 1932-S quarters does make me smile.

Your a smart man Jbuck

I had a chance to buy a 32 D and 32 S in, around 1990 for $350 (for both) they were MS 63+. I let a friend buy them, big mistake. I still have a 32 S in VF+, So I might do the first page in VF/XF.

I have quite a few BU quarters to add to this set, but I am sure it will take me a long time to complete it. I switch around from working on set to set most of my albums are getting to close to being complete.

A set of BU quarters from 1964 through 1998 (minus the 82 and 83) sold for $125 w/ shipping on the Bay. And you can get the clad proofs from 1968 through 1998 for $60 ($30 of that is 1990-1998).

Oh well ... not many wanting to take a guess.

Jbuck was right on, he said $35 for the coins $15 for the Dansco. I did pay $50.

But it is interesting that if you look at Red Book or numismedia on pricing the coins individually
it can really add up. But you can buy a book like this pretty cheap. Just think of the guy who sold it to the coin shop, he really took a hit.

That sounds like a great buy GoldRush. I am waiting on my first dansco (Franklins). I can't wait to get started.
