I would love to hear from as many members on their opinion on the creation of a new discussion forum.
I would like the Coin Community Forum to create a new discussion forum specific to coins and currency of Mexico and of the New World.
What would it take create such a forum?

Well, a quick search of the forum for the words Mexico and Mexican, only turned up 23 topics. Unfortunately that is no where near enough to justify it's own forum. Sorry.

fcrazo obviously you need to create a need for one before its viable. I understand you love Mexican coins and there are several collectors on the forum already. You will just have to make some interesting posts and convince enough forum members to start taking more of an interest in them. Should you be successful in your quest I am sure Dad will review the situation again.
Good luck.

Well, I would second that. However, if there are only 23 topics. I guess it's not that hard to find them.

I think this is a great idea but agree with some of the other comments - 23 posts isn't enough. There needs to be a larger community of people discussing Mexican coins in the World Forum for there to be a stand alone forum. I'm just starting to collect these coins and still have many questions that I sure those more experienced members can answer. As far as a New World forum, I'm not sure how that would work. This may be easier because there will be posts from other countries in Central and South America to increase the overall total. These tend to be pretty spaced out, however, and might not add up to a large number. It also might be confusing because there are already Canadian and US forums. Just my 2 centavos....

I think the World Coins section ought to be enough. It can get tedious trying to keep up with all of the different areas and sometimes I forget where all I was conversing. :)
I do agree that if Mexico was dominating the world coins area then it might warrant it's own area for sure.

I think the OP meant to include Spain, Peru, and all other countries involved in the trade of Spanish dollars (8 Reales).

Can you put a new topic out there to vote on it with a sticky to keep at the top of the World Coin Forum for about a month to gauge interest?

Quote: for about a month to gauge interest? Creating a new subforum doesn't create more interest. We start new sections depending on the amount of activity. Believe me...it's been done and then reverted back to how it was for lack of "interest" that never was there in the first place

I Love the Mexican coins, collect them avidly and would really like one day to see a dedicated space for them here, but Dad is right at this time the group is small and interest is limited.

As a collector who has been focused on Mexican coinage for many years, I do not think we need another forum or even a new subforum to address Mexico or SA coinage exclusively. Every time a new location is created people tend to get focused more narrowly. They stay mostly on ONE topic and that can delay overall development.
Many topics cross the lines between sections and there is a dilution of opinion and expertise each time we fragment the pool of readers and contributors.
So if it came to a vote I would vote to stay is or actually combine as opposed to fragmenting.
