These are the first two coins that I've bought, so I'd love it if you helped confirm what I think my grades are:

Sorry - still learning how to take the best pictures here.. Need to spend a bit more time in the other forum. The gold is a reflection of the light.. The actual colors are closer to silver.. To my eye, both look cleaned?

The luster of the second one and the original look of the first one leads me to believe they are both original. The second one may have been cleaned lightly on the obverse, although it is hard to tell.

I'm going with lafaa on this one. I think they both have had a cleaning at one point or another

the scratch marks were the things that made me believed that they were polished/cleaned, but of course, it could have been slid across a table, rubbed on pants, kicked, etc. but the way that they are made lead me to believe that they are polished marks. I don't know what it is, but I believe it is polished/cleaned

A polished and/or a cleaned coin will have a very bright, unoriginal looking surface. Original luster is a sure sign that a coin has not been cleaned, although a cleaned coin can have small remnants of luster. The first coin I am almost positive has not been cleaned, the lighting is most likely making the obverse look too bright. The second coin may have been lightly cleaned, but as I mentioned above, the luster is a sign that the coin is original.

By the way, I'll say VF-20 for the first quarter and AU-55 for the second.

New pictures a little further up - two responses while I was editing my post.

I got the first one for $19.50 and the second one for $99.

I stick with both my assessments, but the 76-CC has a larger probability of being cleaned now. You got a fairly good deal on the first, and a pretty good deal on the second, although I will waited for the Seated experts to chime in.

Two quick suggestions though: perhaps you should consider investing in a nice camera, the one I use can be bought for around $100 on ebay and here are two pictures I've taken with it, without a tripod or copy stand:

Also, if you are a fairly new collector or haven't been collecting these too long, I suggest you look at numerous examples, to get a better grip on cleaned and problem free coins. Both are very attractive though.
Rest in Peace

I believe the 1876cc is a counterfeit. The date does not look right at all, the digits are different heights. Maybe there is a different variety, but all of the ones I looked at on coinfacts have the digits even. Hopefully I'm wrong, but you should try to post some better pics.

I am concerned about the same thing as Johnny. If you could get us some pics similar to your second photos of your 1854 that would be helpful.

I see what Johnny 54321 is saying but it could be the pictures. (?)

I would need to see better ones to make a judgment.

But the first pictures of the 1876 CC quarter shows a LOT of shininess you don't usually get with a fake Chinese coin... So there's hope for an authentic (but maybe polished ?) CC quarter...
