I posted a non-recommended seller last evening and thought I'd share with you what happened.
Here's the coin I won and a link to the auction listing.

Here's what I received from rockfordcoinandstamp, exactly as I received it.

It's not the same coin (obvious by contact marks and overworn reverse), but it also isn't the
long nock pictured in the
ebay listing. I contacted the seller as follows:

Dear rockfordcoinandstamp,
I received the coin today and unfortunately it is not the one pictured in your auction listing. The inventory number on the coin you shipped is 5649 if that helps. How can I get the coin I bid and won?

Matt,
I wish you would have taken a bit more time to investigate. I guarantee the coin you sent is not the one pictured. You mislabeled the photo. Look at the listing photo and particularly the last number 564X. That is not a 9. It appears to be a 0, 1, or 6. I really want the coin that I bid and won. Please let me know if you still have it and if not instructions for return.
Their response:
Quote:
hi in my system photo can not be mis labled unless 2 of the same grade coins would be for sale at the same time, which isn't the case, sorry that you dont like coin, return for refund. thansk matt
Last email I sent to them:

Matt,
I'm not happy with the coin because it is not the coin pictured in the auction. I'm a variety collector. The coin pictured is a 78-S long nock variety. The one delivered is not. Contact marks are different and the reverse of the coin delivered is far more worn. I reviewed the listing photo and now look at the coin in-hand. Someone has removed one of the staples on the holder, replaced the coin with a different one and re-stapled the 2x2 (the cardboard is bent around the staple and it is not in the photo). I know I did not do this, so I can only assume that someone on your end did. What I want to know now is WHY? If you cannot deliver the coin I won I want this "problem" to cost me nothing. I'm not paying return shipping fees for a mistake that I am not responsible for. If you would like photos of the coin and it's holder to compare, I can provide them.
Note the second photo set and the bent 2x2 around the upper staple.
They agreed to a return and to pay my return shipping. They removed the listed coin and inserted a substitute. They never admitted this (go figure). They probably got an offer after auction close and thought they could pull the old switcheroo ... it would have probably worked if someone was just looking for a well-worn 78-S.
Thought you all should know ... I do not recommend this seller
ROCKFORDCOINANDSTAMP
Rockford C&S refunded my original purchase price including shipping when I returned the coin. THEY DID NOT REFUND THE RETURN SHIPPING AS THEY AGREED. I left negative feedback for this transaction as a warning to others. They emailed me and would refund the return shipping if I removed the negative feedback. No deal. For $3 it stays. I also encouraged potential
ebay buyers to view this thread in a follow-up feedback. Maybe Rockford will join in this discussion and present a reason for their behavior in this instance. I would wager they will not.
