well there used to be but not in production any longer. They made quite a few US coins there including Silver Dollars and Gold coins. The most popular is the Morgan dollars but all are really popular with collectors and some are worth quite a bit. here is one of mine that I have a picture of on my computer

Yep, there was a Carson City mint in the late 1800's. Some of the coins minted there are quite valuable.

If you haven't yet, pick up a copy of RedBook, the 2011 version should be out. Loaded with lots of reference information that will help you out! I keep mine on my desk.

I saw the episode you are talking about. Basically they were speaking in generalities. Generally speaking fewer coins of each year and denomination were minted in Carson City than a lot of other mints. So if you have a coin with CC on it you should make sure to double check the value is it may be worth more (which is the point he was trying to get across to the younger guys). As far as Morgans go I'd say every year with a CC is more valuable than a standard Philadelphia one. But are they $500 coins, usually not. The exact year matters (as does the condition) as an 1889CC can be worth $2000 or more while a 1890CC is maybe worth $100, while a generic common date Morgan is worth $20 or so.

Bryan, I think the 1884-CC Morgan you show, graded MS64PL, all considered is an under graded coin, ANNA looks sweet. In my opinion that coin exhibits some cameo effects, especially the obverse I also believe it should be graded MS65+. I would also include it is a beautiful coin and this is just my opinion.....Mike..

Carson City minted gold and silver coins (no copper) from 1870 through 1893. I live in Nevada about 20 minutes from Carson City. The original mint building still stands today in downtown Carson City. It is now the Nevada State Museum. They still have the original coin press. The museum holds an impressive (and I believe complete) collection of all the coins minted there.
