OK pros - question.

This post and John1's got me to thinking (never a good idea). If Machine Doubling on an incused design on the die causes the step-down look, would Machine Doubling on a raised design on the die cause a step-up look?

Or is this thinking just flawed beyond reason?

Scooby, not positive, but I believe the answer is no. The die would have to the letters up or down and either left or right at the same time to get the step effect. Both these coins appear to be ejection doubling to me.

Check other examples from the same year. Seems they made changes on the VDB for this year. Just like they changed the mint mark shape for the Denver coins forward in 2008 different than in previous years.
