I haven't forgotten you guys, just been dipping my toes slowly - it's so overwhelming! I want to thank twohawks for the incredible amount of support and hand holding. I have spoken to him so much offline. He is a very patient and knowledgeable man. Thanks, Russ! Now on to my dilemma. Nothing special here, just still trying to get the hang of attributing. I think I have narrowed this down to 2 choices, but having trouble with the lack of identifiers. It is either: A)an 1889-P VAM not assigned variety becasue of the die break on the reverse. But mine seems to be a slightly bigger break or a later die state, but does not mention the doubled ear on the obverse, or B) an 1889-P VAM-30, but I don't see the doubling of the left hair curl behind the jaw, but it may just be worn. And I'm not sure if the date is set slightly low. There is also a die chip in the G of GOD that isn't mentioned for either. I've tried to do my homework without bugging you guys, but I'm at a standstill. What do I do next? (Besides buy more and attribute more - LOL).

I have one of them I will dig it out on Monday the VAM number I am drawing a blank on. To much cold medicine. You have to love Ohio 82 on Thursday 29 on Saturday

I remember those days when I was in Columbus, Russ. That's why I came back home!
Still hate it when it plummets below 70 here, though.

"Plummets below 70?" Looks like VAM-30 to me - the die crack is pretty characteristic, and unusual in its' straightness.

It's really quite hilarious to see people down here scramble for parkas when it's 65!
Anyway, VAMWorld has that same die crack listed in the "not assigned" category, too. But, I'm not sure if it is slightly smaller or just wishful thinking. How do I tell the 2 apart? Is my date considered "set low"?

Remember, VAMming and VAMworld are both evolving entities; for both, the workload exceeds the available manpower and there will always be glitches. There are probably half a dozen revisions/combinations currently being discussed just in the 1921's I tend to concentrate on, much less the whole series. And, yes, the date looks a little low to me.

Thanks everybody! I'm just thrilled to have ID'ed on my own! (Well, sorta).
Next!
Oh, by the way, where do I find listed values?

Quote: Oh, by the way, where do I find listed values? You think attributing them is tough? Heh. Values are an absolute guess for all but the most popularly-traded VAMs. If there are, say, 4000 VAMs, fewer than 1000 of them carry any additional value, and of that maybe a couple hundred have enough additional value to be more than a blip on the radar.

I agree VAM 30 also. Congratulations on your first identification of a VAM.
