I finally purchased my 1919 P. It was no bargain, but I really liked the eye appeal of this one and the toning, so I was willing to pay full book. Opinions?

You did well. The toning adds to the appeal.
Looks like at least VF35 and probably EF40.

Thanks afcop. If that's the case, I did quite well then. :-) I paid $59 shipped, and I was thinking it to be an F-15 to VF-20. It doesn't look anywhere near as strong as yours imo.

I'm happy going with a solid VF. :-) I have the 19-s, 24-d, and 24-s on the way.....I'm tempted to post the sellers pics for opinions but I'll wait till I have them in hand. After that, all I need is the 19-D to complete the set!

Wow, that's incredible! I still need 9 more to complete the set, some have been very hard to locate. Congratulations, I bet you'll be able to get the 19-D pretty quick.

I can not offer an educated opinion on grade ...... but ... I will state that if it works for you at that price then well done indeed!
Follow your own collecting goals I say .... so Congrats to you for scoring this lovely 1919-P.

I think that the pic of the obverse may be hiding some detail, which is why I went with a higher grade. We'll see when you post pics upon arrival. Either way - that is still a good price even if its only a VF20/25.

This is quite the interesting specimen. Although it has some coarse hairlines in the pics, they arent that distracting in hand. It also is a LOT more lustrous than what you'd expect from a VF-20, which is what I graded it from seller pics. Both sides cartwheel in the protected areas. The color is also quite gorgeous. Despite the hairlines, it's overall better than I expected, and I think it would grade a bit higher.

The toning is really nice along the rims.
This coin is very similar to the 24D in grade/detail. How does the reverse look in hand?

The reverse is pretty decent too, I think the first picture captured the details. The reverse also has cartwheel luster in the protected areas just like the obverse. To me that is odd on a VF coin. Along with my 24-s, those are the only coins in my set that have obvious remaining luster.
