This one has nice details, but a somewhat weak date. Good enough for me though...

Full rims and shield detail let me go VG10. If we had a stronger date I would go Fine.

Hi Johnny,
Congrats on assembling your SLQ set; I see you're almost there.
I think this 1924-D could make a VF-20 grade. It has more central detail and stronger rims than is required for F-12 or F-15, IMO. The weak date is a given for this issue, as is the flat head.

What's your opinion about originality? It seems a bit glossy to me, a possible indicator of cleaning. There are no visible hairlines or damage, which is good of course!
Rest in Peace

Thanks all for your comments. I was thinking F-15 details overall, though the date weakness might bring it down. I do agree Jaobler it has probably been dipped or lightly cleaned at some point, though not heavily hairlined. It has a little bit of crust, though it is overall pretty white.

Johnny - IMHO - this is a VF20.

As mentioned, you have pretty solid shield detail, nice rims (though beading is merging on front), good detail on both walls, can see the thumb over the stem (one I look for that I never hear others mention), what looks like most of the shield rivets, SOME detail in the hair, all 13 stars are still raised, and some detail in the left wing.

The date on these and anything up to 24 is tough - you can actually make out all or part of all 4 digits, which helps more than the weakness hurts.

MY (me - personnally) target price on this coin would have been in the $105-120 range. How'd you do?

One of your nicer pickups. Congrats!

Did we challenge the authenticity of another SLQ because the head did not interrupt the denticle design? Is that a year-specific design?

Thanks afcop. I paid $75 for this one. :-)

j.h.s.-the diagnostics you are talking to are only used for authenticating a 1916 Standing quarter.

Nice F-15. I just can't go VF on this one.

Great coin though, another tough semi-key.
Rest in Peace

Yeah, this is one of those coins that could go anywhere between VG and VF, all depending on how much weight you attribute to the weakness of the date imo. Some may even grade it lower.
