I've been working on a Dansco 7070 for the last couple of months, and have been wondering whether I should get a MS-60+ Common Date Morgan dollar, or an MS-60 Carson City Morgan dollar (Such as 1882, 1883, 1884, the Cheaper dates). Which one should I go for as a Hole Filler in the Type Set? (I also need to post my 7070 Progress.)

I think it should be a financial decision for you. Can you easily afford $150-200 for a CC Morgan and not have to cut back on other coins? If it is not a problem monetarily, then go for the CC, every 7070 should have at least one CC coin although there are ones less expensive than a Morgan.
As for my 7070, I will eventually be adding an MS-63DMPL Morgan because nothing beats the look for a killer DMPL(MS-64+ is just too expensive though).

I would get an MS-64 common date Morgan and use the remaining money you would have spent on the CC Morgan and get another 1-2 MS coin types for your 7070.

I agree with Moe, but there really is no "right" answer here. For me, I put common dates in my type set. Since my goal is athestic appeal, I'd rather put the extra money into the grade instead of the rarity of the date/mm.

It is a personal decision, but I would go for the common date Morgan over the CC. In my type set, I am aiming to put in the highest grade for each type that I can reasonably afford so I usually put more common dates/mint marks in my set.

I agree with biokemist6, it should be a financial decision on your part.
I would think for this set you should make it "your personal choice". There will be many people, friends and family, over the years that you may show your collection to. Most of them may not know the difference between one coin to the next. Make it a set you will be happy with, don't worry about what others think.
Now if your asking which one might increase in value in order to have a set that is worth a good amount years from now, then I would have to say that the CC Morgan would be a good choice, but that might depend on how good of deal you might get on it.

Thanks Everyone for your advice. I think I will play it along and see what happens, and If I can, I will try to get a nice BU MS-60/61/62 CC Dollar, but if not, maybe an MS63/64/65 common date - possibly with some nice rainbow toning.

I would get a 1882 C.C. because they are cheap

Yeah, I was thinking about an 1882 CC, 1883 CC, or 1884 CC. 1878 CC possibly, but it is usually a bit more expensive.

I guess I'll chuck in my 2 cents. I think I'd go with biokemist's idea on the DMPL. He is right - nothing beats the eye appeal on those things!
