It has the general shape of the wire bristles from a file card that I have only read about - never seen. If it's genuine I would guess $20-50? But, I'm just guessing. Wait for the pros on this one. I'll be watching.

Very nice, retained struck through objects are sweet errors $20-50 would probably be a good starting point and it could go up from there. Whatever you do, DO NOT pick at it

What year is it? Looks to be late 60's, early 70's?

These things are stupid rare and can sometimes go for moon money. I would plan on $50 to start and go up from there. These things rarely happen and rarely make it into circulation when they do.
Oh...and of course it's real. It's embedded into the strike. Can't fake that.

I agree with coppercoins in the fact that you never see these retained strike thru errors. Usually, only the impression is left. Nice find! Congrats. By the way, are you going to auction?

Definitely genuine and it is a wire bristle from a type of brush that is used at the Mint. It could start at around 40.00 and go up from there.
Thanks, Bill

This is a very cool coin and it beats the heck out of mine, by at least 3/4 of an inch.

thank you for all the comments, for now it will be put into the error book. my curiosity of value is mainly because I am somewhat clueless on more off beat items. in other words, if its not in my small libary coin books, I need help. selling the coins that are not in my main interest of collecting may be in the near future. the error book has had a huge jump in the past 4-6 months, LMC '82 DDR, 2 - LMC '84 - DDO , LMC - '72 DDO die #2 , LMC 97 - DDO , LMC 06 - DDR, and not this struck thru wire error. the thrill of the hunt continues. take care

Just curious.....how many of you have seen one of these with an equivalent or greater size piece of wire? Metalmans is a very nice example, but more typical of the ones I've seen. Just a small piece of wire.
I'm thinking that if you do sell this $50 seems very conservative given the size and orientation of the wire. It's very interesting in how it curves and aligns right with the top of the steps.
