Need opinions please. Is this a lamination error or a plating error or something else? Can a zincoln have a lamination error since it's a plated coin? Is it enough of a lamination to keep? Any collector value to it? Sorry for so many questions, but inquiring minds want to know. Thanks to all, John1

Good question, John.
I posted a 2010P recently and just kept being told that it was a die crack. But it didn't look like the typical die crack you would expect to see. So, I still wonder if a lamination is possible on Zincolns, too.
It was as if you had a razor blade, you could stick it in between the plating and the core, and I still kept being told that it was a die crack.

Or it could be something on the surface of the coin. I've seen clear grease on coins also. A tooth pick could be a quick way to check. It it comes off (Pushing lightly) then its grease. You could give it a try and let us know if it is on the coin and not something struck into the coin.

Here is a pix with a toothpick lifting the lamination. Also this pix is not "fixed" before I posted the photo (no Picnik) Thanks, John1

Looks like a strike through error to me then. Looks like some plating got caught during the strike. The second image shows the rim nicely.

Strike-thru? Now I'm really confused.

A loose peice of the plating material fell between the dies and the planchet. Just stuck it in that location. Value? Minimal. More of an education piece.

So, would that be considered a retained struck-thru since the material is still present?
And if the piece would have had any lettering on it, is that what would cause a dropped letter error?

The piece does have lettering on it,TRUST. I don't know the answer to your question. John1

No, I mean if the piece that stuck to your coin had lettering on it. I'm trying to understand if that is the scenario that causes a dropped letter error.

I have a 2007 with a lamination, its about the size of a pencil eraser and half the thickness of the coin deep. I was told since they are not very common on zincolns, that they are worth more than copper cent laminations.
