Well folks it has been done. I have sold my entire collection of USA coins with the exception of some USA Gold and bullion related items. Some was sold here on the Community (thanks to those who purchased from me) some to my local dealer at just under Greysheet Bid, or on ebay. I came about $1000 under what I had in the coins and about $2000 under after ebay and Pay Pal fees. I can tell you that selling higher grade circulated type coins on ebay is a crap shoot. The market is definitely depressed for these coins. If it weren't for re-slabing my uncirculated gold type coins the losses would have been greater. The market is strong right now for gold type. As for Moderns on ebay, you would be better off giving them away to children in your family - that is what I did. I have had nothing but positive experiences on this forum. I want to thank all of you who helped me through the years with advice, grading and a number of other things. This is a unique forum in the coin collecting world for manners and good behavior. Please keep it up. As for me I have bought two new professional Canon SLRs, a new camera bag, and booked and paid for a fall Alaska Photo Expedition and plan to do others with my cash from the sale of my collection. Best of luck to all of you in the future. Continue to collect for as long as it gives you pleasure and remember to not get carried away because you can't take it with you! Peace.

I'm really starting to think about that last statement a lot lately.

It has been a real pleasure to have you around, Colin. You've always freely shared your knowledge, and are unafraid to call them as you see them. I wish you the very best with your new direction in life. Your welcome here will never wear out.

I'm saddened that you emptied out your collection on one hand.....and envious on the other hand. Alaska is a place of dreams still.....I've been there....always wanted to live there.....and want to go back soon. As far as "not getting carried away"....yeah....that's REALLY good advice.....but VERY hard to follow ! The addiction sure can get ahold of ya. And as far as "ya can't take it with you".....well actually I'm planning on doing just that. I'm going to start building my Egyptian Pharaoh style tomb pyramid this summer !! No....but what you're doing, is exactly what I tell my fiance' that we can do, once we've reached those "Golden Years". Some of the collection will go to a Nephew.....some to my Step-daughter......but the lions share, will go to us when we're "retirement age". It's all about what I can accumulate between now and then, in my opinion. Much of it for sheer pleasure of course.....but also some for a "30 year outlook" future kind of thing. I just hope it doesn't end up being like that movie "UP".....that was depressing !! ....but quite accurate with "life" too. Anyway.....Colin.......I hope you have many fullfilling experiences from here on out......and just because your collection is gone....I hope that doesn't mean that you won't stop by from time to time to give your opinions and just "check in" .....(and of course let us know how the Alaska trip went !)
Cheers Bud !

You are definitely going to be missed. I hope you the best in all of your future journeys. Remember, you are always welcome to come back and I would love to see some of your photos show up in the General Discussion area sometime.

I think you have the right idea Okie. I'll be darned if I'm going to leave my collection to family members who have no interest in them. When my wife retires in the near future my collection is going on the auction block. We'll take the proceeds and go on a nice vacation and enjoy ourselves. Best of luck to you and have a great time on your trip!

Okie, I'm thrilled that the sale of your collection will give you so much to enjoy in life, because as you said 'you can't take it with you'. You were a credit to this forum and you will be missed, but I think I can safely say that we're all thrilled that you get to live your Photo Expedition dreams! Best of luck to you! DNA

A new hobby to replace coins? What will you when you have a bad day and just need to rub some wear on that pocket piece? Or replace that smile when you open the drawer to see some gold glimmering?
JK. Best of luck.
