Made good use of a broken slik tripod leg, a couple of ball mounts, one on front and one rear for different uses, and two spot lamps from the home improvement store.

I can't seem to be able to do anything with artificial light. I do all my coin photography out on my back deck on overcast days. That is the best lighting conditions that work for me.

Hello Coinaholic,
Your photo is bad illuminated, white balance is unbalanced and your flash is shinnig-in.
Really, you are a bad Copy-stand-photographer.
Well don't worry, the importand is to be a good coin-photographer, and with this copy stand, you'll have a succsefull photos.
Regards Joan

Very impressive. How did you hang the camera mount to the broken tripod leg? Is this something you can get from a camera store?

How did you hang the camera mount to the broken tripod leg? The model of the tripod (Slik u-212) actually had 1/4 inch mountings on one of the legs and you could add small bolts to turn the others into mounts. It is too bad, it was a really excellent tripod, the weakness of the plastic parts was its downfall.

Very nice. Eventually I will get down to a professional camera store and see what sort of fitting are available. Maybe I can find some sort of boom to hang from my tripod.

If it works, that is what counts. My setup cost $5 at a yard sale. So it works for me.

I'm working on my setup. What camera are you using? Regular light bulbs? For the lighting I am using a combo of fluorescent room lighting and direct incandescent with the small spots at different angles. As to the camera... it is an HP307 with 3.2 mega-pixels. I purchased this to use as my primary camera only to find it a battery eater, even with rechargeable batteries. It would only take two maybe three pictures before saying charge batteries, with flash you might get in two! So I put away the thing and its charging dock and photo printer until this project came about. It does a fairly good job, and with it hooked to ac power, no more battery issues!
