Just thought I would share with the group. I remember a time when I had no idea what a BIE Error was. Terry

That's a nice example. I remember when those were hot. Things change.

That is a nice BIE example. I wonder if a quick bath in some acetone would be justified? John1

John1 I hear you about the bath Acetone and copper scare me. I have heard some real horror stories concerning giving copper a bath. It does not show in the picture but the dark areas have color in them, primarily purple

I had to laugh, when I read the reply about the acetone being used I was thinking about the die chip. Until I read on and realized it was about the discoloration on the coin. A major breakthrough now on sale. Johns Die Chip Remover.

John, We all knew what you meant about the acetone. It was just the comment from Indian that got a bit of a joke going When he had not read the whole thing and started laughing. Just a bit of numismatic humor. Steve199 I have heard and seen sometimes acetone will dis-color copper I have seen it give an Indian Head cent a pinkish color. As far as I know it is absolutely safe for Silver and heard and seen no problems. But Copper is another story. Kind of hit and miss.

If the finger prints were fresh they might be removed. But if they been there a long time, they will be there a long time and get worse as they age.

Quote: But Copper is another story. Kind of hit and miss. I'm pretty sure BadThad gives every one of his Lincolns an acetone bath as part of the process before putting it in an airtite. He's a chemist, and if it were hit and miss, I don't think he'd do it. I think some of the coin dips out there do change the color of copper.
