Here's a nice AU-58 1887-P Morgan dollar. It looks pretty normal, except I think I see doubling at the top of the date and on the adjacent stars. Maybe it's just Mechanical Doubling. I unfortunately don't have a microscope to use for closer examination. Any opinions on presence/absence of doubling? Can anyone suggest a VAM assignment for this coin?
I took an enlarged image of the date. In this image I don't see the doubling although there do appear to be some die chips at the "waist" of the second 8. Sorry about the distortion on the right side; that's from the magnifying lens I was holding under the camera lens. Crude technique, but it did provide some more detail.
Without the clear doubling I thought I was seeing I expect this coin will be demoted to an ordinary AU 1887.
