I'm not a big coin collector but I read that it's pretty rare to find one of these. I believe it's a 1937 Philadelphia, in fair condition for being in circulation so long (at least the details aren't all worn off; but it looks more like copper than nickel). Not worth much but it was very exciting to find! Here it is

Lots of nice details on that and looks like it would grade in the very fine range! Congrats! It does look like it spent some time in the ground and corroded a bit. Though I wouldn't recommend cleaning, I think an acetone dip might help get off some of the surface issues. It definitely is what us numismatists would consider "crusty"! :-)

I received a 1936 Buffalo nickel in change last month at McDonalds. I don't collect many nickels, but I thought it was really cool to find that coin in change and it is in really good condition. It is at least XF and pushing close to AU. I was pretty happy to get such a nice coin that is so old still in circulation...I'll give it a nice retirement. It is nice to see people (especially coin people who have an appreciation for it) encountering these coins every so often.
