Yes, you're correct, they're cast copies. Interestingly, the poor casting quality of replicas such as these makes them appear older to the untrained eye. One can almost visualize the corrosive salt water having eaten away at the surface of such "coins!" These are great items to give to young, budding collectors ... maybe, even make up a spooky pirate story to accompany the gift and propel their imagination.
