I just received a 2 cent piece that I mail ordered and I have a question. It is supposed to be uncirculated, but it is very dark chocolate brown in appearance which makes me wonder if it is artificially treated. I can post a pic if needed. I was hoping for advice on how to detect artificially treated copper coins.
Thanks

Yes, a picture would be necessary to tell if it is artifically treated. Can you post one?

I'm a fool for old chocolate bu coins, they just seem to be so real... but unfortunately experience is the key, go to shows, local dealers, clubs, is much cheaper to learn from other people then your own mistakes...

The problem around where I live is that there are no coin clubs, shops or shows within 200 miles. Posting a pic right away........

If it is not artificially treated, it's going straight to PCGS......

Very nice! Hard to see the doubling though.

The color looks original to me. Can you get larger pictures? It does look MS. I would guess by your pics MS64BN if I had to make a guess. It was quite common for these to have rotated reverses. Check out this thread. You can see the different toning: https://goccf.com/t/65457Richard sure knows his 2 Cent Pieces, hopefully, he'll see this thread

The central veins are intact but the arrow heads have a slight rub on them. I noticed this immediately and wonder if it is AU58 or just a weak strike...............
