Hard to tell by his pictures. It's a good looking coin. The only area of concern for me would be @ 11 O'clock along the rim. There is also what looks like some red showing in the date area. He has a 7 day return in case it's not what you want in hand.

I've always had trouble grading these. The shallow relief gives the idea that it is well worn.

In my opinion, I don't think it quite makes an XF grade. I would put it at VF30+

Agree with VF-30. Maybe some light corrosion, but definitely better than most out there! I think you did well.

Any help with the Sheldon Number? This is my first attempt with attributing a draped bust cent.

Nice addition. I actually have met and spoken to the seller. He is a good guy and keeps a good shop. Early copper is definitely popular here in northern Cali.
I have been dry from coppers for some months so I know I am already rusty but please bare with me. I would think it would be a S244 by the diagnostics. Not a real sharp pic to go from but the 244 are usually quicker to spot as the placement of the 3 in the date is against the bust. Small date/Small fraction Sheldon 244
But with that said, I know I am rusty. I adore the 1803s and all of the varieties but it has been months since I have held one in hand or had the courage to even look at one. (probably just stuffed foot into mouth calling the Sheldon from memory alone)
Penny Whimsy is a great investment if your going to get bitten by the early copper bug.
For a grade you could shoot from the hip but it would really take sharper pics. Angle and photogenic talents of sellers removed as variables, the hair detail and wear patterns are what can help the greatest for more firmly establishing legitimacy of surfaces or more solidly confirming Sheldon number.
Keep us posted when you get the coin in hand.

Looking at Sheldon 244, it says it is rather scarce.

The large date/Small fraction is the big dog in the house, The stemless reverse, and the error fraction are the other standouts for 1803.
Some of the others get up there but rarely create a stir unless they are strong specimens. General only the copper hounds follow beyond the aforementioned standouts for varieties.
Keep in mind the coin is over 200 years old. They are ALL scarce if in good shape. Get your coin in hand and really give it a once over for corrosion or monkey business as problem child large cents are wonderful to enjoy, but they lose ground in the market place significantly with distractions or "issues" such as corrosion.
Please remember I am admittedly rusty and I am confident more will come in and offer opinions on this coin. Do post a pic when you receive it.

I am assuming the large date is determined by looking at the 3.

Yes, the 3 in the date. Sorry I wasn't more specific.
I could bore the pants off a person with large cents so sometimes I try to consciously limit how deep or how much opinion I share. So much of the variety within each year is specific to grade and even unique eye appeal that almost any reference for population based pricing is irrelevant beyond the extremes. Plus now I have no personal examples or references to back my rants.
I do like the coin....but I am biased of course. Large cents are some of the most beautiful and significant coinage of our country.

Would I have to pay an attribution fee if I decide to send it away to NGC?
