ok as I stated in my introduction I am new to actual collecting of coins. I am seriously thinking of picking up a 2009 silver proof set from the mint before the deadline but I have a question. what do I do with it? do the coins come sealed up or encased. sorry i have never seen one in person and cant tell from the pictures. I like my stuff to be in some sort of capsules to help protect it.

thanks in advance for helping out a newb

The 2009 Proof Sets(clad and silver) have coins in four separate lenses/cases. The quarters are in one lens, the Presidential dollars are in another, the four Lincoln cents have their own lens and then the regular denominations 5c, 10c, 50c and $1 Sacagawea are in the fourth lens. The lenses are hard clear plastic and allow the viewing of both sides of the coins, all of the lenses are held in a small red and white box(blue is the color for clad sets).

Yes Welcome! If you go to the mint's website, you can see how they are packaged.

biokemist, thank you very much for the info and for the welcome. I just was going to post I finally found a good pic and description of what the slides were packaged in. thanks again for confirming what I found. I have been searching everywhere for a good enough pic. I will have to get myself one then.

scooby, thank you also. I have been studying the pics on the mint site and was afraid that the slides were just flimsy cardboard with the coins sandwiched between thin plastic or so.
