...has a slightly rotated back. Anyone else notice this on theirs? Here is my first attempt at photgraphing it. Everthing was straight for the photo but I will try it again.

The mint released a statement last week that a few of these coins were released with the "slightly rotated back". This was a flaw in the design, and not supposed to be released. They are already estimating the value of these few coins to be at $60,000+. I am of course making this whole story up

Funny.

I don't care about the value...I just want to know if this is known on this Proof.

I did another photo and it is the same. It is slightly rotated. Are all of them this way or just this die? The Photo from the mint website shows EPU as straight and on mine it is not.

Anyone else?

Thanks.

I'm so gullible.

I believed the $60,000, until I read it was a joke.

Hey thanks for the joke and the replies to the joke.

But, I was looking for information.

Do any of you have a $50 Gold Proof Buffalo?

Could one of more of you please reply?

Is the back on yours staight or slightly rotated?

Thank you in advance, I hope.

I just checked mine. It does not appear to have a rotated reverse.

Stephen, thank you for your response. I've looked at it a thousand times as has my 10 year old daughter, and I have taken two sets of fairly precise photographs and all come to the same conclusion.... that is a slightly rotated reverse. I only have one and plan on keeping as I collect errors.

I would be intereseted in hearing from others who have a proof in hand.

How is this possible being a proof and all? There must be more from the same die.

Keep an eye out.

Thanks again, Chris

mine is perfect, and from your pictures yours isn't rotated enough to be considered a error, now I can take pictures of mine and it will probably look rotated just because I may not be standing in the same position I was in in the first picture or when I flipped the coin over it rotated a small amount

Byron, I thank you for your resonse. The degree of rotation is small as I have stated. I don't flip the coin over be itself. I leave it in the holder which is square. I line up 2006 to be parallel with the bottom of the holder. Every time I do this, even if 2006 appears barely uphill or downhill, EPU on the reverse isn't even close to being straight. The mint show both EPU and 2006 as straight.

Yes I think you are right about that small amount of rotation as not being considered an error. I still think it's special, and I know my coin is not the same as all 300,000. Plus being a gold proof of a buffalo and all, and having a slightly rotated reverse is Perfect for my collection so I'm Stoked!!!

take care.

Well I am looking at mine and lined it up in the case 4x. Mine is actually a little rotated the other way, ie leaning forward.

I have 4 of them so lemee see...all seem to have a definate lean forward. So there you go..

I just visited my favorite coin store today, and the owners let me look at the proof version straight from the mint.

Absolutely beautiful!!!!

Wow, what a coin!

Frankly, I do not have $800 to spend on a single coin, but if I did, that's the one I would buy.

Regarding the rotation, the one I looked at didn't have it.

You may want to call the mint about your order, I have had mine for a couple of weeks now.

OK I got out the protractor. I Did two different measurements and got 7 degrees both times. Yesterday I tried to measure my photographs and got 8 degrees.

I showed it to two jeweler friends of mine, they both said it was rotated.

THIS proof IS rotated!!!

I'm thinking it's about 7 degrees off but i'll go with the range of 5 - 8 degrees off.

The error book says rotated errors start at 15 degrees.

But this IS a Proof, Gold 50 Dollar Buffalo coin with about 7 degrees of rotation.

My main collection is error coins but I bought one of these to go with my 2001 silver buffs. And for the mint to send me a rotated coin is just awesome, thanks usmint.
