I "think" the wear around Abe's ear and his cheek, the condition of LIBERTY and the date, the wear on the wheat, the condition of ONE CENT and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and the weakness of the east rim on both sides challenge XF for this coin....

...particularly given the tripled value of the coin from VF to XF.

HOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWEver; check out this coin that sold as an E/XF

I think that if you sent it away and it graded it would be EF. That said, the color, esp on the obverse concerns me. You can draw a line from about 1:00 to 7:00 and divide the dark side from the much lighter side. Seem strange. I am wondering about AT.

I think there is enough hair detail and the wheat stalks are nicely seperated that this would probably grade XF40.

These pics came out a little better. I tried something different with the lighting to better show the details. I didn't quite get the color right with the first pics. The coin is a darker brown that what the first pics look like. These pics are a much more accurate representation of the color.

With these pics, do you still have the same opinion on grade? I was thinking it was more along the lines of AU50.

What do you think?

Thanks for all the replies!

Wow those pics are alot better. Definitely an XF coin and in hand AU50 is probably reasonable. The obverse looks more AU than the reverse does.

I can't really contribute in terms of grading, but I would like to say that those are great pictures!

Much better pictures and they bump the grade a bit. I might go EF45 but there's too much wear on the wheats to make AU. The wheat grains are nearly flat and that's not due to the strike. There's also a good bit of staining/browning on the surfaces, an indication of more circulation.

Very light touch of wear, no luster...AU50. I would look into getting that spot removed off the obverse - by someone who knows what they are doing with it of course.
