Here's one of my favorite gold coins, purchased from Heritage back when it was easier to get good deals from that venue. It was originally in an ANACS slab and I was able to cross it over to PCGS at the same grade. Any opinions on what grade it was assigned?

AU gold is tough. I don't think PCGS would cross at 53; I'll guess AU50. Then again, it may be 55 and I'll eat another helping of crow, thank you.

It may get a downgrade for the heavy bagmarks on the cheek.

Thanks for the comments! This coin has enough remaining luster to generate a fair "cartwheel" when tilted under a light. Color is very nice and contact marks are pretty light for a CC gold eagle. I hoped it might upgrade from its original ANACS EF-40 grade, but PCGS applied its policy to NEVER upgrade a competitor TPG coin. So, it's in a PCGS XF-40 holder now, and conspiciously undergraded IMO.

Total purchase cost was $495 back in 2004. Those were the days, my friends!

I'm thinking EF45, from the face marks, and hairlines....I don't have any gold so I'm just guessing here

I'd certainly buy that coin in an XF-40 holder. I think it's undergraded. That was certainly a nice buy for $495!
