I just think that the new commemoratives don't allow for interpretation. They simply tell you what to think through the picture. In the article, there was a bit about the symbolism of the $20 Saint-Gaudens, and I agree with that. I want to look at a coin and think about its message, not simply look at it and being told what it stands for.

I wouldn't mind having a few Soviet-style statues or motifs on our coins. You can say bad stuff about them, but their coins (especially the commemoratives) are just absolutely simple, but filled with messages.

**End of rant. I saw this article too in the morning, and just have a strong opinion for it.

I think we just need a new Director and a Congress that contains some "old school" hardcore numismatists !
This "fresh new direction" with America's coins is really unpopular with old schoolers....and there is obvious truth to the "design quality" when compared to the "old days".
There's got to be somebody somewhere who is up to the job in defining this "creativity direction" that so many folks seem to "want" to go.

And banknotes too! Why can't we just stop pasting on new features onto old designs that don't really match with each other! I think every 50 years, we should just go back to the drawing board and create all new designs. For notes, we can keep the color the same, but change the style!
