Newbie here so please excuse me if I'm posting incorrectly.

I've had this 1/2 oz gold eagle since I was 14 or so. I bought it in 1986. It's been sitting in my safe and I was thinking it's time to get rid of it, it's not doing me any good. Except I can't identify the mint mark.

Not a mint mark, designer initials for Augustus Saint-Gaudens

According to the Red Book the 1986 Eagle was minted in Philadelphia; hence, no mint mark.

ah! So would this have come from Philadelphia? I can't find any other markings, there are designer initials on the reverse side too.

Thanks!

Yes, the obverse is the original Double Eagle design by Saint-Gaudens but the reverse was a new design so it has separate initials.
