I have a nice toned 3CN coin that has a few obvious spots, which were vastly less obvious in the pictures. Will I be able to get rid of the spots with an acetone wash without affecting toning? I know there have been similar threads with silver coins, but I havent seen any for CN. Thanks.

Got any pictures?

Acetone will not effect toning unless it's artificial.

The answer likely is, forget about it. If they're dark spots, unless you harshly clean it, they're there forever. I have a few like that and I'm not too bothered by it. If they were Proofs, that would be different, depending on the overall eye appeal.

If the spots and the area under the spots are not toned like the rest of the coin removing them(if its even possible) may result in leaving spots with no toning and they maybe more distracting than the black spots.

Could use a photo but remember that unless you know what those spots are, chances someone can tell you how to remove them is dim. You could be mentioning acid spots, dirt, milk, spit and on and on and on with all sorts of possibilities. My suggestion is to attempt Acetone dip and if that fails, forget about any further attempts.
Use the Search tab at the top for Acetone, cleaning coins, coin cleaning and similar variations of removing such spots.

I took your advice and left it alone, metalman. No pics unfortunately because of camera issues at the moment. Returning the coin as these spots really kill the eye appeal. The reverse is nice, but I want something that I really will like for a couple years to come at the minimum...the search continues!
