Back in 2001, when Mrs. Wetherup was President of the Royal Canadian Mint I wrote several letters to the mint. Some of my comments that were published in CCN's editorial were debated during 2002 C.N.A convention. That was when I was a respectable collector.

A-Sad-Day---A-Return-To-Ridicule

I strongly urged the RCM to limit the production of NCLT in terms of mintage and to focus on history, geography, art and people. I opposed the ridicule in issuing 90th anniversary coin when the RCM could wait 10 more years and release a more meaningful 100th anniversary.

I opposed massive dumping of NCLT coins in the US.

I called for changes. Better quality. And I wasn't the only one.

Despite her public opposition to my statements, the numbers spoke for themselves. Eventually, she stepped down.

And since the ET coin disaster, some beautiful coins have been produced. Mintage has been reduced. NCLT duds go back to the melting pot. The Mint returned to profitability.

The Mint has stretched the limit of what can be done with coins. This isn't necessarily a bad thing since nothing is taken away for the traditional circulation coin collector. Collectors not interested in NCLT can simply ignore the issue altogether.

But today I saw a return of the past. A time of despair and confusion. The release of the 60th anniversary of the peanut marks a point in time when one has to wonder again.

Wasn't there enough NCLT released this year? Shouldn't we wait another 40 years when we have live TV on a coin to release this cartoonish coin?

For me, this is a very sad day.

Well.

On the positive side, this is the ONE subject that actually deserves garish, cartoonish art. Unlike that poor twoonie with anime Lynx kits.

sigh.

I'm not stepping on anyone's toes... but I'm confused. Are Canadian NCLTs more popular in the US? [hmm]

A little while ago, one of our members was saying that they liked
Canadian coin designs much better than 'dead Presidents and stone buildings'.

In this case, I'll take the dead Presidents and stone buildings!

Or, better yet, Liberty and Eagles. For $420, I can pick up a ¼-oz.
Gold Eagle, four Silver Eagles, and a Peanuts compilation book.

If it was to celebrate Beanie Babies (no offense to collectors of them) I'd be all over it. =P

Ouch...

Post the ET one!

There is so many "unknown to the public" flora and fauna that could have been done instead...
