I suspect that is a gas bubble. Not sure of the "technical" explanation, but when they changed from copper to zinc cents, the zinc cents sometimes get these bubbles in them. I assume the copper plating isn't adhering to the zinc properly.

Could be a bubble like SD said or maybe a die chip or die crack?

That looks exactly like what happens on the "Logsplitter" 'extra thumb' so-called variety... I never would've guessed gas bubble but I would like to see what more of the experts have to say about it

Umm, well. It doesn't look like the 2009 cent doubled dies - wrong design. The doubling on those is the thumb, and there is no thumb to double on this design.

The image is not of high enough quality to figure out exactly what the anomaly is, but from its position it appears to be a gas bubble.

sorry to get this thread side-tracked but wouldnt a doubl-die have to mean more than doubling on the thumb or finger? I thought a double-die had to encompass the design as a whole...

Darth Anarchus - I would be happy to answer your question in its own thread. Your question is a valid question, but asking it inside someone else's thread about a different subject is considered hijacking the thread - not nice. I'm sure you didn't mean it that way, so just ask your question in a new thread and I'll be over to answer it.
