I can't find any numbers on the coins so I can't help you there, however I did find this website on Ilkhanids. http://mehmeteti.150m.com/ilkhanids/index.htm

thekidcollector if you can read the coin do you see any names or titles that might help identify the era.

EDIT: I believe the coin is a silver dirham from the reign of Ghazan Mahmud who ruled from 1295-1304 AD or 694-703 AH. I can't find an exact match so I don't know the exact date or where it was minted but I am pretty sure that I was from the time of Ghazan Mahmud as I cannot find coins from other eras who used the same pattern.

This is an Example:

Ilkhanid-Coins-Help

This is yours:

Ilkhanid-Coins-Help

Yours is from 1295-1304 AD rules by Ghazan Mahmud.

For the date:
Islamic coins like that normally have their date the reverse side on which the name is not situated, so I would figure due to your picture it should be on the right picture, and they normally have the date on the topmost or bottom most part of the coin.

But I couldn't find it on your coin.

TKC!

P.S- I have learned arabice for 8 years, doesn't neccessarely mean I am Arab. So I am NOT an ARAB.

As I understand it from looking at a few of those coins on the Ilkhanid site (eg. number UE-1983), the mint and date should be written around the outside, between the star and the circular border; it should say "struck in [name of mint-city] year [year in numerals]". They might also have written out the year in long-form, if the year was short and simple (like seb'mi'at, or 700). If this is the case, then unfortunately, I think the important bits are off the flan on your coin.

Numerals on these coins should look much the same as modern Arabic or Persian numerals, though sometimes the "5" took on weird shapes.

TKC, if you get stuck reading parts of the coin, don't panic. The Ilkhanids were of Mongol descent and frequently used Mongol scripts on their coins. For example, the three "M"-shaped characters in a vertical line on the reverse are one form of Mongol script, but there's another that superficially looks similar to Arabic. On the example coin I mentioned above (UE-1983), only the Ilkhan's name is in Arabic - the rest of the script on the reverse is in Mongolian.

My reference book for Arabic coins is Richard Plant's "Arabic Coins and How to Read Them". An excellent book for an ignorant Westerner like me to make a start collecting Islamic.

I can't say for certain, as Ilkhanid coins are much more variable in style and content than many of the previous dynasties, but I think the name at least will always be in Arabic.

After all, most of the population of the Ilkhanate couldn't read Mongolian, but could read Arabic/Persian. No point in advertising yourself if no-one can read the advertisement!
