You should post this in the classic forum where the VAMmer's hang out.

VAM 1AE is correct. As for the scribble scratches, I disagree with Mr. VanAllen, these are well hidden on the coin and hard to spot with the naked eye and should not be noted. SuperDave will be along to help even further.

To me it is pointless to list each clash/crack/chip. But people go for that thing.

Gotta admit, it is a lot of work they put in on the morgan/peace
die varieties. Keep your looking to just the top 50/100 vams
and also if the coin is in a high AU or unc. No real premium if that's what you are after on the others. Actually, all morgans
are vams anyway. There are some pretty interesting ones though.

I moved this to the VAM section of the forum and also renamed it to include the date so I am sure it will catch superdave's eye

There are many boring Vams and a few are in the top 100 and hot 50 and carry no premium. And there are many of very cool Vams that are not on the main lists. Case in point is the 1878 P VAM 18 it is not on the hit list, the hot 50 or the top 100, But it has the loudest complete over date in the Morgans. I will post a photo of one when I change Putters . I am not sure how the lists are put together, but if you like something it really doesn't matter.

Here is a "not hot, hit or top VAM" in any semi modern coin this would be in a cherrypickers guild

No need for me. MorgansRmine got it right the first time.

While I'm here, I might as well post pics of an example which wandered thru my collection a few years back. Any excuse to post pics is a good excuse.

Wow, I have so much to learn.

Although I would have ruled out doubled die, I would have thought Machine Doubling on that 1878. Although I enjoy VAMming, it's very difficult in the beginning. I probably still have a dozen Morgans that I have yet to attribute. I wish the "funnel" were a little easier to follow. I guess like everything else, it's just repetition and seeing the coins over and over again.

As SuperDave will tell you it gets easier with time. Everyone finds different type Vams more interesting then others. Vamming is like dressing you can wear what everyone is wearing or you Just wear what makes you the most comfortable!

Bryan1315 , thanks for the move

I've had that '21 for over a week and I kept saying- I'm not gonna look,I'm not gonna look,I'm not gonna look

reading the forum after I got home , I came across SuperDave's 'Giving is not its' own(ly) Reward" contest(s)

seeing the pics of his gracious gifts, mentioning it as a VAM starter set I HAD to look
clicking each VAM in order as my eyes grew weary - I'm hooked now... and thats what I was afraid of LOL

Thank you everyone for replying !

actually, this was just a '21 I picked up at auction for a nice price, when I got it, I said - geez,
look at all the cracks... and why I didn't want to look , KNEW I'd be hooked

as for the top 50 (#45)- I just happen to have picked up an 1897 that just might make it (possible 1897-P VAM-8)

i will try and get some pictures posted after I wake up around the crack of Noon- and see if the VAM experts here can let me know
