So the last time I posted up a nice find by my fiancee was this note: Yesterday she found this: J 1985 $50 error note B 1977 $50 Star note: G 2003A $5 Star note: B 1988 $100 Star note: And now for these next two $100 notes, I want to ask if its worth it to keep since it has a small error B 1950D $100 (the seal is moved alittle down to the right) A 1977 $100 (Cut very close to the right side) Enjoy and please let me know if the last two $100 is a spender or keeper? Any Value? Thanks! Vince Edited by luckyrollers 07/01/2010 08:30 am

Quote: are you really able to keep $406?! Nope, not really. That is why I'm asking about the last two hundreds. Quote: You should put her on your payroll! She has a good eye! Keepers or sellers not spender's.IMO For the last two $100 notes. What's the value of each note? Sell it on ebay? Are they both at least about $50+ each in vaule? Please give me some suggestions and/or opinions. Hope you all enjoy the notes as much as I did.

Vince, I would keep the 50 D. Although the shift is minor the G in "Granahan" and 50D are touching the bottom portion. What you want to do is compare other 50D's on line to see how much of Granahan's signature is shifted. More specifically you have to find New York Fed notes ending with "A" suffix and closer to your SN for a good read on this. This is not easy. Else hang on to it as long as you can.
FWIW I have some $2's and $20's that I am still researching where there are minor shifts in the SN touching other portions of the print. I have somewhat narrowed these down to fed district and SN ranges where it happened.
Also can you post a scan of the $1 reverse? At some point you would want to have the $1 and $50 graded (jmo). The $1 "could / may be" cross over as "major" shift / alignment error and has a good shot at it.
Very nice finds by your spouse.
Peace

Peace Ceylon, THanks for your advise. I will try to hang on to all my notes. If anything, I will try to sell those notes on ebay or to a coin shop. Which company Should I send it to be graded? How much does these cost? Thanks!

The three major TPGs are all about the same in my opinion. Depending upon the TPG that you choose, it could cost as little as $10 per note with a minimum of 25 notes, or about $25 for a single note. I know nothing of FRNs other than how to spend them, but I too would be interested in knowing if folks here feel that you could break even on ebay, or if a coin shop would offer more than face value for these notes.

As far as ebay goes, I'm a buy high, sell low kind of guy. I have tried a few currency auctions where I didn't put a minimum bid on the money just to see how it went. So far I'm about 50-50 as to whether I make a profit. But then I have never really tried to sell anything significant, just odd & end bills. Coin dealers/pawn shops want to make a profit so they wont give you what an item is even close to being "worth". While on ebay sometimes you get lucky and some idiot like me starts bidding on the item. If I really want it I will spend too much for it. There are (God help them) other people like me on planet. It just depends if we are in the market when you put your bills up for sale. * Edit: Oh and btw luckyrollers you are lucky indeed. My girlfriend works at a bank and wouldn't save me a bill or coin if my life depended on it

There are a few grading services. I have been looking at PCGS and CGA. As per price it should be less than $30 per note for the service. I do not think the special rates ($10 to 15) would apply for "error notes". So far I have just saved my notes and have not submitted anything for grading yet. As per ebay - It's a hit or miss when it comes to currency errors. On collectors universe forum just post the 2 errors in a new post for their input (jmo). I am not a member and saw them over there. Edit - add "error notes" in the title of the message. Peace
