Does anyone have information on these rare coins and better still a graphic of one? This inquiring mind wants to know. Thanks!

What do you mean by "specimen strike"? Are you looking for information on a pattern?

Specimen strike in the context of mint struck coins struck as specimens, not for Business use, but not proofs either. Here's the quote from the Red Book (talking about SLQ Type 1's): "No Proof coins of this type were officially issued, but specimen strikings of the first variety, dated 1917, are known to exist." The following photos are the reason I'm asking. I won this coin yesterday and see what you think about it.

As far as I understand, "specimen strikes" often have similar characteristics of a proofwhen there isn't any official documentation of a proof having been minted.

Walter Breen has stated that he saw 2 of the 1917 proof type 1 Standing quarters with the matte finish. However, these have come under a lot of scrutiny and aren't fully accepted as "proofs" or "specimens" by the modern numismatic community.

Your 1917 appears to have thicker than average rims, and it is very nice; but I'm not sure it would ever be considered a specimen, especially considering there very existence is controvertial. I'm sorry for the ambiguous answer.

It is quite the prize though! Wow. Getting it graded would be interesting. Maybe you could slip a note in with it about your question upon submitting it.

Wow, nice coin.

Where did you get it?
Not an ebay cherrypick was it?

Okay, inquiring minds want to know: Where, when, how much?
And how was it described?

Nice!

Actually it WAS an ebay cherry pick. Offered up by a professional photographer. He had it since the sixties (quoth he ;) ). Got it late last week for a bit over $300.
