It's a mystery to me. These two coins were in the first crate sealed (read nailed shut)by my Dad before he died in 1981 and stored in my house since 1984. I unsealed the crate on Monday. All of the coins in the crate that I have looked at so far except these two are dated prior to 1980, as they should be. I have no explanation how these two coins got in the crate . They are not on the inventory list.

The wavey lines are an artifact and are not actually on the coin. The scratch on the rising sun is on the case.

This is a typical page from the inventory in my Dad's handwriting. The red checks are mine as I have taken the coins out.

The the SoL Commem is a CuNi clad half dollar and there was also a silver commemorative dollar issued with it. The mintage was fairly high and it is worth ~$10. The second one is a Silver American Eagle $1 bullion coin(first minted in 1986) currently worth the spot price of silver plus a couple dollars.

Interesting. Two coins that were minted five and seven years after your father passed appear in a box at least one to four years after it was sealed.

You are not related to or acquainted with Criss Angel, are you?

He'd have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those meddling kids.

It's stories like these that make "treasure hunting" so fun.

I think Nod has the most logical answer.

I think everyone is enjoying more than the pictures. I hope you do not mind. If you do, let me know.

Have you ask any other members of your immediate family about this?
