Found this Fake ANACS slab with fake Coin Inside. It is a pretty good job for the most part. I figured most counterfeiters focused on pcgs or ngc... well some have moved onto ANACS. Scary. 1-day listing, not returns accepted...Someone is out $250.

I'm guessing the seller is unaware, judging from their other presentations and previous sales. Neither the seller nor the buyer noticed the mint mark was backwards, though....

I've informed ANACS.

The easiest way to tell is that the mint mark is backwards

Also notice the grade is printed off to the side and not where the grade is usually printed.

I am guessing the seller knows they are fake, they also had a 1877 IHC and a 1884 3 cent yesterday (1-day listing) that were also fakes in the same fake anacs slabs. They sold for big money.

Also take a look at the other coins they have for sell, especially the Barber Half

Their other items

Reporting them to ebay.

Good work Cownas! Here is the Indian cent. Obviously fake with the strong reverse "N", but also looks like a higher grade than VF-35 to me. A genuine 1877 in that grade I think would have gone for a lot more than $1,400.

The whole color of the slab is off, as I've never seen them with that kind of color combination.

Congratulations people, this is a new style of fake slab and the first of this type of ANACS slab that I have seen. I wish the pictures were better but that seems to be a common practice of people selling fake slabs.

This one is fairly obvious but I suspect that will not last and future versions will be more deceptive.

These ANACS slabs are not his only fakes. I'm pretty sure that the common moderns and common raw indians he has been listing in one day auctions are all real but I believe all of his raw older type coins are fakes as well. I know the 1850 Half Cent currently listed and the Half Dimes and 1822 cent in his completed sales are fakes. The 1822 cent is rather scary. I don't know why it didn't sell. It would probably fool most collectors and dealers.

Looked some more, the 1872 Two Cent, 1840 O Half Dime, the 21 S buffalo, and 1893 O half are all fake as well.

For knowledge sake. How can you tell about the 1822. I've spent about 10 minutes string at it and can't tell. (not very good at identifying fakes to begin with.)

I wonder about the 1921s buffalo by the same seller? Decent 21s if it's real.

How does this seller continue to do business? Will they be shut down?
Of course I realize they will be back under a different name anyway.

Yea, some of his fakes are pretty good ones, the only way I noticed the V nickel was the mintmark was backwards, but the slab is a dead giveaway since ANACS did not issue slabs with that background.

The 2-cent is a good one too.
