I've been looking at my collection lately and realizing some of the things I thought I really wanted aren't exciting me as much anymore. I bought one of these sets from the mint when they came out and I was very happy with it and the reverse proof is really cool, but my real interest is in classic coins.

I'm sure many of you have come to a point where you've realized that your focus had shifted, so what would you recommend? Part of my reasoning is due to my coin budget being very small at this point and looking for some ways to generate money to put towards new pieces. A set like this has already greatly increased in value from the issue price, am I likely to be kickin myself later because the price continued to go up? Or should I just cut any "fat" in my collection and not look back?

I would ask you, do you collect ASE'S and other sets alike?Do you plan on putting these coins in an album, or have the set graded, which I am not sure the TPG'S will do once this set has been opened.

I believe you have to decide, what makes you happy and go for it.

I collect these sets and ALL Mint/Proof sets and am very glad I do,still, but this is about you, Think about it...PS, I believe the reverse proof alone is worth about 200.00!
You had great foresight to purchase the set, which tells me you will again, do what you want and I am sure you will be fine, good luck, Mike....

I don't collect ASE's for a set or anything. I have a few examples and will keep at least one or two for my collection, but beyond that I'm not really into "completing sets" of any given coin at this point. If I were to keep it I would most likely keep it as is, it is a very nice set and obviously the reverse proof is a great piece. I'm just feeling like I'd enjoy what else I could get with my money more than this.

Sounds like it's time to sell some ASEs. That's the beauty of collecting. You can focus like a rifle or scatter like a shotgun. It's your collection.
