That's pretty much all that warrants typing. In 500 or so in front of me there isn't one that isn't magnetic.

approx. how many Canadian magnetic 2007 cents did you go through before you found the nonmagnetic one?

I suspect there were none released for general circ. The 2007 RCM annual report seems to indicate this too. But I recall somebody selling a whole mint-wrapped roll of them on E-Bay one time. That's what has me a little confused.

I'm coming to that opinion too. I hadn't heard about the ebay listing, and I haven't read the 2007 RCM report. I will do so. AndrewC's comment has confused me as well. If he's referring to American cents then his reply was absolutely useless.

Magnetic and non-magnetic varieties were both put into circulation in 2007.The numbers are as follows:
9,625,000 non-magnetic 938,270,000 magnetic
The non-magnetic make up 1.0154% of the 2007s so its not surprising if you have difficulty fnding one.
In 2008, they stuck with magnetic only but in 2009 they did both with the rounded numbers just being released: 37 million non-mag 419 million mag

On those statistics, I should probably have a half roll of them by now. They must have all been released in the same area, nowhere near Toronto.
thanks laconic !

The annual report from 2007 may state that non-magnetic cents were produced IN 2007, but they do not necessarily bear the 2007 date. Most years (likely in January) a few coins are produced bearing the previous year as their date. Perhaps this is the source of confusion. Edit -- I'm not really disagreeing with you, as you stated that they were "put into circulation in 2007", not that they are dated 2007.

Yes, that is the strange part -- people have been finding the odd one. I don't know whether they are broken out of sets, or if the mint just threw a few PL ones out there by accident. But it's clear that there aren't 9 million of them.
By the way, has anyone heard anything further about the 2008 non-magnetic that some guy apparently sold on E-Bay?

bbid,
I grabbed the numbers out of the 2009 Chartlon book so I am not sure why you would disagree. Copper-Plated Zinc is non-magnetic and the numbers are on page 55. They use N.I.I for any non-circulation as they are found in sets (non issued individually). This is not the case here. The multi-ply plated steel (magnetic) numbers are on page 56.

I took a quick picture of my 2007 non-mag (forgive the lighting please). ICCS like to use the term numistmatic BU for NON-circulation coins and this is not the case here.

I'm referring to Canadian cents; we get them in circulation here in Michigan.

laconic: Please carefully read my issue with those numbers. On page 44 of the RCM report, the mintage is broken down by coin date and production year. Coins produced in 2007 do not necessarily bear the 2007 date. Several coins were produced in 2007 with the date reading "2006". Zinc cents are plentiful dated 2006. So how do we know how many of the 9 million produced in 2007 were actually dated 2007? I acknowledge that some may be in circulation, but I dispute the 9 million number (for the reasons above). Another thing -- can ICCS actually reliably tell the difference between PL and circulation strikes? I know this discussion has already been had in another topic, but I'd love to see someone succeed 50 times in a row in a controlled test.
