Three Dollar Gold Pieces
I have two beautiful examples but the series is a big one and would be very costly to even nearly complete. I say "nearly" because some coins are either unique or rare enough to be affordable only by the most well-heeled collectors (which ain't me). There are 35 years to collect and a few with mint marks. Plus, they are very hard to find in eye-appealing, problem free, and original condition.

If money were no object?
How would you collect it if it were no object?

Lets see, ohh the options.
Lincoln Cents set PCGS Certified MS/PF66+ Red set to include Proofs and matte proofs.
70/70 with the gold pages filling every hole with the BU key date for that series.
Top 100 cent varieties
as many cool notes as I could find

The first big investment I would do is a Flowing Hair with chain reverse. I drool about this coin...

I'd love to have a small fleet of 1950s and 1960s VW beetles.....Yes, beetles...
But if we are sticking to coins/currency I'd collect patterns coins and unique notes. I LOVE the idea of having one of the only few known to exist.

I would pursue one of EVERY U.S. coin ever struck. I would also like a real 427 Cobra, and a yacht (the kind that requires a crew!)

I would collect quality watches (Audermars, Vacherons and Petek's) I started already... I have a collection of one and unlikely to grow.
I would try to make a gold date collection if money was no object but since it is I will stick to filling in some blanks I have for circulating currency...

I'd try to get a type set with every type represented by all possible mintmarks (which would of course include such serious rarities as the 1838-O Half Dime, the 1891-O quarter, or even the 1855-D gold dollar, but generally I still won't be going for keys because they're that much harder to find). Oh, and as much as possible in AU-58 (though if something is easier to find in MS-63 or higher I'd go for that). Probably would also get something else, but still have no idea what

I think that I would like to put together a set/collection of the best grade of US coins prior to 1800. I have always wanted to have some decent US coins from the late 1700's, but cost always gets in the way.

As for general buying goes, everything under the sun.
As for coins / notes go: 1895 Morgan Proof, any Large Chain Cent, 1892 $5 Educational Silver Certificate and many many many many others...
all in the highest grade.
