No trick, at 11 o'clock there is a small carbon spot, there are many grading services, this is not from the bottom nor the top tier service.

Quote: but I feel this is a trick Excellent point Ian, you really have to watch Gene, he is 'very' tricky. If you sent it to ANACS, I will go with MS-60 details "cleaned". I swear they work on a quota system there.

well it hasnt been cleaned.. I'm pretty sure. no hairlines, lots of original luster. Probably a water spot, someone was talking towards this coin.
Other than the two scratches on the nose and the one on the cheekbone, the face is pretty good looking, no scratches probably woulda pushed me to 64/65.
Its a well struck coin on top of that.
Im gonna laugh if its AU-58 cause of some wear we cant see from the pictures.

Very nice, I'd grade it at MS-64.

Maybe 64 in a newer slab. I'm guessing this is an older NGC slab, and wouldn't be surprised at 64 if it is. Definitely Mint State and well-struck for 1921.

Just wondering why you guys don't think this might go 65? I see virtually no marks on the coin that would indicate otherwise, even though the pics are small.

I'll be out of town tomorrow so THE ANSWER IS I think everybody did great..... Its a nice strike, graded by PCI, some years ago..as of late there has been a trend in the past year where the grading has tighten up considerably......probably to keep the current investors prices stable, rather than let MS65 and up grades enter the market place and devalue there investments....but that will be another thread.... I think this coin is MS64++ making MS65 and up quadrupples exponentially from MS64 @ $41 to MS65 @150, MS66 @ 930 to MS67 @13,000 as one can see the coin effects the over all population and value any time a new sheep enters the flock....

By today's standards I would say 64. too much chatter on the face imo and what looks to be a few deeper scratches.
I dont know how that lonesome carbon spot at the top of the hair would be perceived though. From what I understand, carbon spots are GENERALLY not allowed at 65 and up.
but pci 65 is still pretty delicious. nice coin

I wouldn't buy that as a 65. Then again, I wouldn't ever buy a PCI slab. No offense.

Thats awesome for $25! Whether its higher than 64 depends on whether those 'marks' are very superficial or actually marks IMO

The price was right so if it dropped I'm still good..I have few MS65 coins to go by, and even then some look flawless and then some can be slightly baggy, This one leans to slightly baggy.. Either way I'm $30 ahead in grading costs or more!!
