You made the right choice if you decided not to buy it because you didn't like the "eye appeal". Can you imagine always going to your collection and looking at that coin and saying, "Gee, I wish it had better eye appeal." That would have been a $175 lesson. Is the pic that's posted the coin you were looking at or an example someone else posted of striations? The reverse pic shows nice die lines that you can encounter that I don't think really affect value all that much. Many VAMS are determined based on these. However, the striations on the obverse of this coin pictured would definitely affect the grade, in my opinion. That's the element of "eye appeal". Would/should definitely bring the grade down a couple? Be interested to know what others think. If the coin posted is not the coin you were looking at then what grade were they offering for $175? Just curious. I have a relatively nice MS60.
