I know that many of you use ANACS for grading. I have only used NGC or PCGS and I have a few questions...

1) There is no minimum amount of coins to send in for specific tiers?
2) Unlike PCGS or NGC who only attribute top 100 VAM's, ANACS will attribute any VAM?
3) Has anyone sent an ANACS slab into PCGS or NGC for crossover?

Thanks in advance,
~christina

I've never sent in an ANACS slab for crossover.

There is no minimum amount of coins and the grading fees are cheaper since you don't have to be a "member". I believe they will slab all VAMs.

I heard from James Taylor (President of ANACS) just a couple of days ago and he will be coming on the forum again as a guest either at the end of this month or beginning of September. I'm going to be contacting him after the ANA show. At that point, you will be able to ask James your questions directly. It went very well when he was here in January and he is looking forward to spending time with us again.

answer to question number 1 is there is ni minimum, answer to number 2, yes they attribute every VAM known (as far as I know) answer to number 3, I have crossed ANACS coins to NGC with pretty good results (as long as the coin was as the slab stated) and even some of them I thjought were undergraded at ANACS but came back the same grade at NGC. I will be doing a test soon for 2 coins that were crossovers and came back with the same grade ANACS graded them, I am going to crack them out and resubmit them and see if they get a higher grade (which I and other people think the coins deserve). I think they didn't want to give it a higher grade because it would make ANACS look like they have tighter grading than they do

another thing, if available (which I dont think it is) I would specify the old slabs because the new slabs stink, you can crack them open with your bare hands and stick another coin in them and super glue them in the same spots they are sealed in and you can never tell the difference. I had a picture of one I cracked open (was a Morgan dollar) and I put a Ike dollar in it and you would just think it was a mechanical error because it looked like it did when I received the coin from ANACS (except a different coin) so just think how easy it would be for a same date same mint mark to be switched for unsuspecting buyers. I never buy ANACS coins in the new slab for that reason, I would have until I did one myself and saw how easy they were to open

Thanks for the responses Susan & Bryan.

Bryan, I am interested in seeing what the results are when you crack them out and resubmit them. I would appreciate it if you let me know what happens with them.
