Here's another recent purchase. This one was sold as a 1910 (Philadelphia) coin, but I'm pretty sure it's a San Francisco product. The Indian half eagles often have weak to near-invisible mint marks and this one appears to have a mushy S mintmark. The San Francisco coin carries a slight premium over Philadelphia in circulated grades, so I'm happy about that.
This coin appears to have a strong AU obverse but the reverse shows loss of detail over the eagle. I'd guess it might squeak into an AU-50 grade overall.

I believe you're correct on the mint mark; it's not rare enough to warrant artificially applying one. Very interesting coin, as a result, and the grade estimate seems appropriate. Nice addition.
