I'm not sure if that's what this is called, is it anything special? It was one of the earlier years and better grade set of these half dollars she gave me. opinions are highly appreciated, thanks :)

p.s sorry for my newbie questions.

This is a Walking Liberty half dollar. Looks like a 1935 from the Philadelphia mint, hence no mint mark on the lower part of the reverse at about 8:00. I would grade the coin on the cusp between VG and F without better pictures. Value is about $10 - $12 retail and $6-$7 wholesale.

Thanks everyone So I know BU is straight from the mint, well at least I think so. What does VF and F stand for?

There's a lot of info on the condition definitions for this series on this website.

Check the little D for Denver, on the reverse of this 1919-D half. It is located just inside the rim on the lower left (imagine the coin is a clock face and the mintmark would be at about the 8:00 position).

If your coins are worn like the 1935 it won't much matter that they have mintmarks. There is basically no price difference in lower circulated grade.
