Sorry, but this is damage from the reeded edge of another coin smashing into this one.

It's a real error, but not a valuable one. It's a minor broadstrike with a very tiny partial brockage. Market value is about a buck. Hope you enjoyed the seafood.

hmm, I'm trying to visualize this coin being struck, but it has me whipped. I see the where its a little broadstruck and where it seems to be a little tilted, but it looks like it would have to be on end to get the reeding on the face of this.

Should there be a "Blakesley effect"? John1

I have to modify my diagnosis slightly and define this as a partial collar error with a small partial brockage.

I didn't catch that the dime was broadstruck in the first pics. Sorry Jasper. Nice story behind the coin. It always helps to have a personal attachment to the keepers.

John1: Quote: Should there be a "Blakesley effect"? Blakesley affect only show on incomplete planchets. While going through the setup process the to form the rim on blanks, if the blank has a clip on the coin, it usually show weakness 180 degrees opposite the clipped area. the missing area of the clip doesn't form the rim in that area. Thus the term incomplete planchet.
