Hi all - I'm not at all good at grading seated liberty pieces. I'm liquidating parts of my collection and have no recollection of ever buying this piece, but since I don't really collect this series I'm getting rid of it. Had difficulty getting a solid shot of the obverse. Thoughts on the grade?

I'd say it's solid for AU-50, with traces of luster remaining around the stars, date, and legend. There seems to be quite a bit of chatter in the fields and the bright color suggests it's been cleaned.
If I were offering it for sale I'd call it AU and mention the possiblility of a cleaning. I'd also experiment with lighting since I think you could probably get some more flattering shots. These photos have a washed-out look that may not present the coin at its best.

Hey 50 sounds about perfect. I bet this coin is beautiful in hand.

If you are selling, I'm interested in buying...well...I probably can't afford it but if you would like to donate it to the 'Mattbrowning7 Wants Your Coin Foundation', then I would be delighted to accept it

I would say XF-45/AU-50. Nice Half Dime

Thanks for the input. I had been leaning towards EF40, maybe 45. Somewhat impared luster on the obverse, potentially from an old light cleaning as Jaobler mentioned.

I also remembered where I got it. It was an impulse buy off ebay from a seller who mislabeled it a regular 1859, not an 1859-O, and I got it for a steal.

In hand, I may even go 53. Looks nice with ample luster remaining! Nice coin.

I would be surprised if this was anything less than an AU50. The photos probably don't do it fairly.

Grade from photos is EF-45. Like others say, it's probably nicer in hand.
