I am thinking that this 1878 7 over 8 tail feathers variety may be an EF (at least apropos details, but the rim dents may take it down a bit). What kind of grade would you assign to this coin? Thanks!

I don't think the rim damage is enough to bring it down.

EF 40 imo.

I would grade it at EF-45, but with the rim damage it will drop the grade a bit.

I don't believe it would holder with a grade, sorry. Lately they are really picky about dings and scratches. I just had two that came back from ANACS with Details "scratched" and I didn't consider the scratches any more significant than your rim dings.

If it would holder EF40 would be the most you could expect on this VAM 33.

I would agree with the SeatedNut there. And VAM 33 looks good.....
